My Favorite Reads in 2015

I was talking with my daughter the other day and decided that it would be a good topic to write about my favorite reads from last year.  I read a lot of books in 2015. Most of which were written by indie authors that I’ve become acquainted with through social media. Very few of the books I read were really bad, most were pretty good books. But there were three that really stood out in my mind as my favorites. Five if you consider that one is really a series of three books. I can’t say that one is favored over the other, especially since all three are totally different genres. So I think I will discuss them in the order I remember reading them. With my faulty memory it may be a little mixed up.

Fallen Angels Series by Julie Nicholls coverThe first I read is an epic paranormal romance series, Fallen Angels, by Julie Nicholls. Other than my daughter’s books I really had not read much paranormal anything, let alone romance in this genre. My resident author was stoked about this author and convinced me that I should at least read her books.  Yes, these are  romance books and yes there were some very steamy scenes in the series, but, there was so much more to the stories. Epic, I’m not sure that the series is billed as epic, but to me the series is just as epic as any I’ve read.  Angels and demons, political power struggles, intrigue and battles. Full of action and adventure, love, lust, magic and myth.  I loved this series and am looking forward to reading more by this author in the coming year.

Bucelarii - CopyThe second book that I read is a dark fantasy, Blade of the Destroyer book one of the Last Bucilari series by Andy Peloquin. What a unique story. I loved the Hunter, an assassin with a  cursed dagger as his weapon. The character development was superb and I was really drawn into the Hunter character.  The author captured him with thorough detailed narrative that showed him to be honorable in his own way though a slave to the cursed blade he was tied to. The Hunter was a master of disguise, a protector of the innocent and destroyer of the wicked. I loved the story. I do hope that there will be more this year.

Sacrificial Wolf cover S. Richard EhredtThe Sacrificial Wolf is an action packed political suspense thriller by S. Richard Ehredt. I believe this was a debut novel and it was a truly enjoyable read. I felt as I was reading that it was as good as any suspense novel I’ve read. The story takes place in the era when the “War on Drugs” was the government slogan. This book took that war literally and I called it – the war on drugs on steroids. His characters were well developed and the plot was intense and exciting.  It was a great read and I do look forward to more from this author.

There were a number of books that I enjoyed almost as much as these but I simply could not choose everyone of the books I liked and honestly these three were the ones I liked the most. Whether it was the story, the characters, or the author I really can’t say, but these were my picks for favorite books I read in 2015. Below I’ve put links to the Amazon buy pages for these. Happy reading everyone.

Enjoy!

About grandmapeachy

I am a retired grandmother and amateur quilter. Generally I do not discuss religion and politics with people other than my family and even then I do more listening than talking. Because I dislike confrontation this blog is a way for me to express opinions that I hold on these and other issues without having to delve into controversial discussions with others who may not agree with me. I am also an avid supporter of indie authors. There are a lot of great books that are not available through traditional publishing and I believe that these stories need to be brought to the attention of the reading public.

    • I loved your trilogy and even after so many months I still contemplate the story and characters. Not often do I read something that I visit the memory of reading with a fondness. The books in this post are the ones that did that foe me this past year.
