Divisiveness in Society

There is so much division within our society. Reading comments and heated arguments on various social media outlets I can see that things are declining. I would venture to guess pretty rapidly too. The recent mass shooting in Las Vegas has again brought the arguments about additional gun control laws to the forefront. Instead of being compassionate for the victims and their families affected by this tragedy people are arguing about banning the sort of weapons used. I say that is not the solution, but, those who are convinced that more gun laws are the solution simply do not want to listen to other opinions. They are blinded to reality. Criminals are just that, criminals, and no amount of gun laws will keep firearms out of the hands of criminals. The only thing gun laws do is keep the honest citizen from owning them. How does that help? It doesn’t.

Then there are the myriad opposing militant groups out there. I won’t even begin to list them, anyone who reads this will know the groups that are always on the forefront of the news. The divisive, angry, destructive and quite vocal people, who are most likely influenced by media, are always in the news. The people and groups who would like to unite us are not newsworthy. Instead the news outlets, both mainstream and alternative, cover the activities of these divisive groups ad nauseum. There are so few good reports of what people do who care and help one another, who are united in an effort for public good.

Politics, oh my! This has to be among the most divisive topic out there. Conservatives and liberals both, regardless of where they stand, refuse to listen to anything the another side has to say. Are there any truly free thinkers out there? So many are wrapped up in their own agendas that they can’t even begin to see another’s point of view.  Our government is corrupt on all sides. At this point I believe that politicians on both sides are in favor of the New World Order agenda. That agenda is not in the best interests of ordinary people. However, in the end the Bible does state that there will be a one world government and a one world religion (Revelation 13).  I’m not a Bible scholar, but, I don’t think that now is the time for that system to manifest, though it is not too far into the future.

What I do know is that rational, peaceful people need to distance themselves from those who cause divisions. Divisions are not healthy for us as individuals nor for society as a whole. In this age we are seeing much violence because of divisive influences in our world.

Romans 16:17-18 Revised Standard Version (RSV)
17 I appeal to you, brethren, to take note of those who create dissensions and difficulties, in opposition to the doctrine which you have been taught; avoid them. 18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by fair and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the simple-minded.

To be united even in our diversity is a much better way of life. We are humans, created in the image of God.

Psalm 133:1 King James Version (KJV)
133 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

This is what you get when I go onto a graveyard schedule with my DH. Middle of the night contemplations and ramblings. Blessing and peace to all of you my readers and followers.

Blessings and love,

About grandmapeachy

I am a retired grandmother and amateur quilter. Generally I do not discuss religion and politics with people other than my family and even then I do more listening than talking. Because I dislike confrontation this blog is a way for me to express opinions that I hold on these and other issues without having to delve into controversial discussions with others who may not agree with me. I am also an avid supporter of indie authors. There are a lot of great books that are not available through traditional publishing and I believe that these stories need to be brought to the attention of the reading public.
