I think I’ll be getting back into the swing of things again. I’ve been doing other things that have kept me from regularly posting book reviews on Fridays. A couple weeks ago I did post reviews of two non-fiction books I read. Though the author is an independent author with his own publishing company he is not an indie author in my ‘family of indies’ that I love so much. This week I will be have a review of one of my favorite indie author of children’s fantasy. I had read the story as a beta reader then when the book was published I bought it. I re-read it yesterday and wrote a review. Unlike normal I posted the initial review on Amazon and Goodreads before publishing on this blog. So, in writing the blog post for this Friday I took the original review from Amazon and fleshed it out with more information on what I liked about the book.
I’ve started reading another book by one of my favorite authors of the year and hope to have a review of that one the following week. There are a lot of books that I think I promised to read or that I put on my TBR list. But, I don’t know where that list disappeared. There may be a similar list in our Amazon wish list for books. I’ll see what there is and pick something else once I’ve finished the one I’m reading now.
The past few months I’ve been working with an author helping to edit the second book in a series. Its has been fun, and educational. (See: Friday’s Musings: Learning to Edit posted on 11/11/16) Having finished the last detailed round and awaiting the author’s completed draft for a final read through I am finding a bit more time to read and do other things. I’ve been reading and studying my Bible more. I’ve also been catching up on some Netflix movies, a few other videos I missed, and YouTube channels I had been following but have stopped watching lately.
Quilting has been on my list of things to get back to as well. I’d like to finish a couple of wall hangings before time gets away from me. I need to finish piecing those tops and take it to the embroidery place to have the words I want in the center professionally embroidered. It would take me “forever” to do that by hand and I am not sure I could actually do it in the space I have. Later this week a friend of mine is bringing a quilt over to look at. She’s been having a problem that she’s hoping I can help advise her on how to overcome. We’ll see. I’m not a professional quilter by any stretch of the imagination. But maybe together we can figure out a suitable solution to her dilemma. Before then I need to get that sewing room in order again. It’s level of organization has deteriorated, as happens with every sewing project. I’ve got too many unfinished projects to easily count at this time. It’s like having several TV seasons worth of stories at different stages of completion.
Speaking of stories, I even have a real story that is in the making. I haven’t written much on it, a couple chapters that were rattling around in my head with a vague idea of the crux of the story. Notes on the characters and ideas for the plot are written in a notebook but no solid outline for the story itself. I’ve been doing research as I can on elements that I believe will be in the story. I understand that stories seem to take over and they morph into something other than what an author originally envisioned. Maybe by next November I too can participate in NaNoWriMo – maybe.
My resident author has been working on a novel for NaNoWriMo. I’m excited to be a first reader of the book, that is if she lets me. Sometimes she doesn’t let me until someone else has ripped through it. Maybe with the experience I’ve been gaining this past year she’ll take a chance on me being the first to read and edit. In the mean time I think I’ll go work on that disorganized mess I call a sewing room and get myself ready for my friends visit later this week. I’ll read during my rest breaks.
Have a great week!
