There was a crabapple tree in our back yard. At the moment it is still there. We’ve been concerned about it since we rented this place over two years age. The trunk was completely hollowed out at the bottom from carpenter ants infesting it.
Last night just after I went to bed I heard a loud noise and wondered if a wind storm had blown in since I’d been outside last. I listened but didn’t hear anything more so went to sleep. Well this morning I discovered the nature of the noise. The neighbor came over to tell me I needed to call the landlord because the apple tree fell. Neither of us thought there had been a storm, there was no evidence of rain during the night to indicate a storm. Both of us knew that eventually that tree would fall. I guess it just gave up last night. The base could longer support the weight of the tree and it succumbed to the force of gravity.
At least it didn’t happen when someone was out there in the back yard of either home. We have young children living here and the neighbor occasionally has young children visiting. God is gracious in controlling the timing to ensure no one is injured.
I went to take pictures to send the landlord if needed and going down the back steps I slipped and fell. Hard landing and I’m sure I have a couple bruises on my backside. Its been almost an hour and I can still feel where my body hit the steps. But, God is good to me, I didn’t break anything. So many people my age break bones or have other injuries as the result of falls. So far I’ve only been bruised. Praise God! (I’ve fallen a number of times the last 2-3 years.)
So the mighty crabapple tree of our back yard will no longer give its shade for it has fallen. I will not be doing much today, for I too have fallen.
Be safe and be Blessed!
