On Vacation

Grandma Peachy profile 1If you call a trip to visit relatives a vacation, then I’m on vacation. The purpose was to be with my daughter and her family for the court date to adopt two children. That turned out to be disappointing because the adoption was delayed. A petition was filed to delay the adoption by biological grandparents. Since the paperwork was filed the judge has to review the filing before proceeding. There were 22 people among family and friends in attendance including three generations of family. I’m confident that eventually the adoption will go through, but, not at this time. It could take up to a year according to their attorney. Sigh…

So the rest of this trip is for visiting family and friends. There have been two birthday parties with lots of people in attendance. The weather here is so nice that both have been outdoors. They’ve grilled lots of food for the party goers and there are always lots of children running around and having fun. I enjoy that part, though, I am not a very social person and after awhile I have to retreat indoors to recover from so many unfamiliar people.

I’ve managed to get a sunburn. It’s just so nice compared to this time of year at home that I sit outside a lot. Even though I thought I was staying in the shade, apparently I failed. My face is pretty red and so are my arms. I forgot to bring my summer hat, unfortunate for me.

Yesterday I went to church with my father-in-law. Mom was sick so she missed. It was nice, a good sermon, and visiting with people I know. I also took dad to an evening Bible study which was enjoyable as well.  I’ve also made arrangements to visit a friend later this week, a young woman I’ve known since she was in her early teens. I’m looking forward to seeing her and her family.

My vacation isn’t about being a tourist, none of my vacations have ever been like that. Well, maybe once when my husband and I took a road trip to tour the Midwest for our 25th anniversary. Even then we didn’t do a lot of touristy things. Visiting the arch in St. Louis and wandering around Pella, IA were pretty much the only tourist activities we did. The rest was just enjoying the scenery and stopping by a restaurant in a small town I lived in for a couple years as a teen.

Basically, this vacation is just to spend time with family I don’t get to see very often. It’s a break from the daily routine at home. Nothing exciting, unless you consider getting to see the tattoo artist work on my daughter’s ongoing tattoo exciting. That happens today. I’ve never seen that done so maybe it will be interesting.

Next week I’ll be home but I’ve not made any arrangements for author interviews or book reviews for the week. Those of you who visit to see interviews and book reviews I should be back on schedule the week of the 21st, hopefully.

Have great week everyone!

About grandmapeachy

I am a retired grandmother and amateur quilter. Generally I do not discuss religion and politics with people other than my family and even then I do more listening than talking. Because I dislike confrontation this blog is a way for me to express opinions that I hold on these and other issues without having to delve into controversial discussions with others who may not agree with me. I am also an avid supporter of indie authors. There are a lot of great books that are not available through traditional publishing and I believe that these stories need to be brought to the attention of the reading public.
