Author Interview with Julie Nicholls

I would like to thank author Julie Nicholls for being here with us again today. Welcome back Julie.12106967_1136348916393307_962739139061553120_n

GP: Julie was interviewed in September and answered many general questions for us. This week we are featuring the full Fallen Angels series with an emphasis on her final book “Ascension Within” that was recently published.

JN: Hi! Thank you for having me back!

GP: I’ve already reviewed the first two books, “Demon Within” and “Angel Within.” I will be reviewing “Ascension Within” this Friday. It took me a day or two to finish reading but I know the writing takes a long time. How long has this series taken in the completion from the beginning of Demon to publication of Ascension?

JN:  I started Demon Within in June 2014, It was released in Nov 2014 and I’m quite amazed I’ve managed to get all three out, plus a few smaller short stories in between!

GP: You are also an artist and did the cover art for your books. Tell us about the creation of your cover art for these books.

JN:  I wanted to paint a cover purely because I hadn’t seen any other painted covers while I was browsing through the book cover sites. For me it was a no brainer really, because I love digital art/painting, and I knew in my mind what I wanted. There have been many compliments regarding my covers, which makes me feel very proud. Demon Within is currently up on in their cover competition.

GP: You released Demon Within on audio and had Scott Ehredt narrate the book. How did you connect with him to have him narrate and is he continuing to narrate the rest of the series?

JN: When I put Demon Within up for offer, I had to ask the director/narrator to go with a 50.50 royalty split. After a day or so, Scott contacted me via the site, asking if the title was still available and after I confirmed, he said he didn’t usually work for a royalty split, but that he had a good feeling about this title! So…I was rather excited about hearing that, and after he’s made the audition, I was amazed. I’ve been ranting on about him every since…and I can tell you… as of this moment, we’ve sold 147 audio books in 19 days. I think that is fabulous! He will be starting Angel Within in a few more weeks, so I’m very very giddy!

GP: What has it been like working with someone to narrate your book? I am talking about times that things went well and times there were problems to work out.

JN: Truthfully, I have had no problems with anything. Before we started work, I sent Scott a list of the characters and a description of them. The only issue we had was that he kept calling ‘Eloise’… Elaine! So we had some fun about that. I explained that I didn’t really need any accents, other than typically English and so he did his stuff and I loved every aspect of what he’d done. Each morning I would log into ACX, download the chapters to check for mistakes, and then let him know that I was happy and he continued with the next chapter.

GP: I know that much of mythology includes men born of gods by human women, were these myths part of what influenced you to create human/angel characters?

JN: I’ve been fascinated with the story of Angels for some time, and I did some research before I began the series. The angel names I’ve used, are listed, and the ‘skills’ or whatever we call them, are fitting for each one that I chose to use in the story. I confess I left out any reference to religion, purely because I didn’t want to come over as preachy. This is a fantasy romance, I’m not trying to push religion, in fact, I’m an atheist so the story is purely fiction and fantasy.

GP: Would you say that you’ve included some of your own beliefs and ideals in the story? If so, in what way?

JN:  Yes, I have. Kai’s personality is similar to myself in that he never knew love as a child and he has issues with trust and stubborn. I am a bit of a romantic, in that I love a happy ending…and I know in these modern times women are all empowered etc, but I have not burned my bra! I’m not saying I consider myself to be less equal, merely that I enjoy a man pulling out a chair at the table or opening the door…or slaying one or two dragons. *grinning*

GP: Are you planning any books with the stories of other characters from the Fallen Angels series?

JN:  Hm….actually…. yes….but I’m not sure when. I intend to make a new series with …wait…. I can’t say can i? spoilers!!! lol

GP: Who was your easiest character to develop and why?

JN: KAI!!! Because he’s my dream man. He’s everything I want and think about in my fantasies…oops!!

GP: Who was the most difficult character to develop and why?

JN:  I struggled a bit with Kiera. I’ve mentioned already, I’m not a fighting woman or someone that needs to be in charge or dominant, so writing a female warrior was something I had to learn. However, I don’t think she came out too badly!

GP: Tell our readers where they can find the Fallen Angels series books and where they can find out more about you.

JN: All of my books are available exclusively at Amazon, even the audio books and paperbacks. If people are interested in contacting me…they can do that via twitter @juliemirishka or via my official website

Julie, I want to thank you again for taking your time to be with me here today. Readers please come back on Friday to catch my review of Julie’s book “Ascension Within.” I hope everyone has enjoyed this chat with Ms. Nicholls.

Happy Reading!

Grandma Peachy

JN: Thank you very much for inviting me again and I assure you the pleasure was all mine!

About grandmapeachy

I am a retired grandmother and amateur quilter. Generally I do not discuss religion and politics with people other than my family and even then I do more listening than talking. Because I dislike confrontation this blog is a way for me to express opinions that I hold on these and other issues without having to delve into controversial discussions with others who may not agree with me. I am also an avid supporter of indie authors. There are a lot of great books that are not available through traditional publishing and I believe that these stories need to be brought to the attention of the reading public.
