Author Interview: Julie Nicholls

Demon Within cover Angel Within

I want to welcome the talented author and artist Julie Nicholls today.

HI, Thank you for having me.

GP: Tell us about yourself what do you do when you aren’t writing?

JN:  When not writing, I make artwork. I’m a cover artist as well as a digital portrait artist, so I am kept quite busy with one or the other.

GP: Yes, Julie did the banner for this blog page and I love it. She was able to get just the kind of image I wanted for my page just by asking a few questions. Isn’t it delightful? On to my next question.

GP: How would you describe your books to people who’ve never read your work?

JN:  I write paranormal fantasy romance, and erotica. I have a book series, which despite being categorized as paranormal romance, tiptoes on the erotica side too. Some short stories I’ve written, definitely come under the erotica category.

GP: It seems many authors have been writers since youth. When did you begin writing and what made you decide to begin publishing your work?

JN:  I confess, my need to write didn’t start until about 5 years ago when I wanted to write fanfiction for a popular show, Stargate Atlantis. After I’d made quite a collection, I started an erotic writing site, Literally Sensual, and after a while, I decided I wanted to have a go at a novel.

GP: For new authors what do you believe is the best advice they could receive?

JN:  Don’t let anyone put you off, even if you’re not the greatest writer, keep at it, and never give up.

GP: Has publishing changed the way you view your writing? If so tell us in what ways.

JN:  I can only say that I realize now how important it is to have my work checked before publishing, either in a book for sale or for free on one of my sites. I think I had it in my mind that because I was giving the stories away, I didn’t need to be too concerned about typo’s etc. And I appreciate that’s very sloppy!

GP: Some authors have stories they outline in detail before setting the story down, while others have a basic story idea and just start writing and let it develop as it is written. How would you describe your style in this regard?

JN:  I have the full story in my head and then I try to type it out so I don’t forget it later! But when it comes to actual writing, I tend to think about a few chapters ahead when I go to bed, and ‘play’ them out as a movie, having conversations with the characters, actions and settings etc. The following day when I start writing, I try to recall all the details of the ‘movie’ I had in my head. However, I ALWAYS forget somethings!!

GP: Tell us about your most recent series or published book.

JN:  I have a book ready to publish on 1st October. It’s the final book in the Fallen Angels Series and is titled Ascension Within. The first book, Demon Within, has just now released in audiobook, and is available on iTunes, Amazon and Audible. Angel Within is next in the audio queue, and once my wonderful narrator, Scott Richard Ehredt has finished his current work, he’s starting Angel. All of my books are available in ebook, just the Fallen Angels Series is in paperback too.

GP: Can you give us hints about what you are working on now?

JN:  Now I’ve finished Ascension Within, I am in talks with a friend who I role played with before I started Demon Within. The story is going to be diverse… two males, one a vampire and one a fallen angel get together, and not just for work. *wink, wink* I confess, I am a fan of m/m stories. It was the reason I started writing fanfiction, so this is sort of a dream come true to actually write a book about this topic.

GP: Where can readers find you and your books?

JN:  I sell all my work via Amazon and their sister companies, Audible and Createspace.

GP: Here are links to her pages as both and author and artist.

JN:  Thank you very much for having me!!! You’ve asked some excellent questions, and I hope you’ll have me back in the future!

GP:  Fans can count on another interview and review shortly after the release of Ascension Within.  I hope everyone comes back this Friday for my review of Angel Within. Also scroll through to find my review of Demon Within a few weeks ago.

Happy Reading,

I am a retired grandmother and amateur quilter. Generally I do not discuss religion and politics with people other than my family and even then I do more listening than talking. Because I dislike confrontation this blog is a way for me to express opinions that I hold on these and other issues without having to delve into controversial discussions with others who may not agree with me. I am also an avid supporter of indie authors. There are a lot of great books that are not available through traditional publishing and I believe that these stories need to be brought to the attention of the reading public.

A great interview with a most WONDERFUL author and artist. Thank you, GP, for bringing attention to her work. She is generous to a fault and deserves much success! I have the honor of narrating her Fallen Angels series and she has been so very helpful in getting my first novel up for sale. She is an absolute dream to work with. She is a beautiful person.
